Strategies

Sustainable Transportation Initiative of Richmond (STIR) branding, website and blogs will be established as soon as is practical. This will be very important for credibility, maximum dialogue and the ultimate success of STIR. Data Directions is leading the effort to brand and create a compelling web presence for STIR.

STIR will engage a PR firm to manage its “message” along the way and promote the Greater Richmond Region as a national leader in these important endeavors.

• Grants from federal and state governments are available for our project; TIGER is best federal example and a funding target for jumpstarting many of the infrastructure requirements of the city. There are other numerous options which STIR is currently working on to be sure we identify all pertinent sources of attractive funding for STIR and its ultimate partners.

• VCU would likely be an ideal initial STIR test site and possibly the first among many within the Greater Richmond region. Other sites might include additional college or university campuses, corporate campuses such as Capital One or Phillip Morris, military bases such as Fort Lee, mixed -use communities where “new urbanism” is a central theme such as Roseland.

STIR intends to designate official ‘Transportation Partners’ which will initially include Segway, Inc., Ford, Dominion Power, Segway of Richmond, and in the future other appropriate electric vehicle companies as well as pertinent technology companies such as those focused on battery and urban grid.
