Projects

STIR  is formed to lead Richmond’s efforts in the adoption of sustainable transportation to the region though support for project adoption, education, and related activities.

STIR is working to make Richmond a pilot city for both the G.M./Segway PUMA Project and Ford’s Urban Mobility Network System- the first set of what we see in the future as numerous and disparate alternatives. Both Ford and Segway/GM incorporate green, eco-friendly vehicles transportation systems, and state of the art, networked information systems. Time is of the essence.

GM/Segway, Inc. is currently assessing Richmond as a potential pilot for its G.M./Segway PUMA Project

Ford Motor Company has recently committed in principle to making Richmond one of 10 pilot cities for Urban Mobility Network. MOU from Ford will be sent to STIR by June 30, 2009.

In addition, we will provide community support in advancing Richmond's DOT TIGER grant opportunities. U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has announced the availability of $1.5 billion in DOT TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) Discretionary Grants for capital investment in surface transportation projects. Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis to projects that have a significant impact on the nation, a region or metropolitan area and can create jobs and benefit economically distressed areas.
